Trump to Send 5,000 More US Troops to Poland

President Donald Trump says the United States will send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland. He linked the move to the election of Polish President Karol Nawrocki, whom he said he was proud to endorse.
“I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 troops to Poland,” Trump said in a post. The announcement marks a shift from earlier plans.
It comes amid rising tensions in Europe over the war in Ukraine and energy security. Russia has warned NATO against any blockade of its Kaliningrad exclave. The Kremlin said it would respond to such a move.
Poland sits on NATO’s eastern flank and shares a border with Ukraine and Belarus. It has been one of the alliance’s most vocal members since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The additional troops will add to the American presence already in the country. Further details on timing and units have not been announced.
