Three Tankers Hit by Projectiles in Strait of Hormuz

Three oil tankers have been hit by unknown projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz this week. Shipping intelligence firm Marisks reported the attacks, as carried by Reuters on Thursday.
The Liberia-flagged vessels were the products tanker Al Ruwais, the very large crude carrier Mersin Prosperity and the Aframax tanker Sinbad. All three were sailing with their transponders switched off. The strikes happened on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Britain’s UK Maritime Trade Operations confirmed three separate attack reports in the strait. One vessel was struck on Monday evening and caught fire. The fire was later put out and the crew were reported safe.
Al Ruwais and Mersin Prosperity are managed by ADNOC Logistics and Services. The company declined to comment. Sinbad’s manager did not respond to requests for comment.
The attacks come as Iran said it was reviewing a US ceasefire counterproposal. Nobody has been identified as responsible for the strikes.
The incidents add fresh risk to shipping through the world’s most critical oil chokepoint. Analysts say insurers may raise premiums for vessels crossing the strait.
