Iran says it received US response as American troops leave Iraq

Iran said on Wednesday it had received a US response to its latest proposal to revive the collapsed Gulf ceasefire, days after President Donald Trump said he had rejected it, Reuters reported.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi conveyed the US response to the Iranian government, according to a post by an Iranian government spokesperson on X. Qatari mediators had shuttled between US and Iranian envoys in New York during the UN meetings — the first proximity talks since the ceasefire unravelled.
Under Iran's proposal, Washington would lift its blockade of Iranian ports and Tehran would reopen the disrupted Strait of Hormuz within seven days. An official briefed on the talks told Reuters both sides broadly agree on the steps needed but disagree on the order.
The same day, Washington withdrew its last forces from neighbouring Iraq under a plan agreed in 2024, ending over two decades of US military presence. Tehran called the pullout a victory for its "axis of resistance".
The US-Israel-Iran war is in its eighth month. What matters now is whether the Qatar channel can bridge the sequencing gap before shipping and energy markets take another hit.
