Gambhir: Guwahati run-fest ‘not cricket, only batting’

India coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the Guwahati pitch after his team chased down 406 to beat the West Indies in the second ODI on Wednesday.
West Indies posted 405 for seven, their highest-ever ODI total, with centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo. India replied with 406 for two in 43.3 overs to seal the three-match series by eight wickets.
Captain Shubman Gill made 223 not out off 133 balls, while Rohit Sharma struck 101 off 75. The pair added 254 for the first wicket.
The chase was the second-highest successful run chase in ODI history and the first time India have chased more than 400.
Speaking to Star Sports, Gambhir said there had to be more contest between bat and ball. He said the match was not cricket but only batting, and called for sympathy for bowlers on lifeless surfaces.
The 811 combined runs were the third-highest match aggregate in ODI history.
