Sri Lanka Spinner Bowls With Both Arms To Set T20I First

Sri Lanka spinner Tharindu Ratnayake made cricket history on Thursday by becoming the first bowler to take wickets with both arms in a T20 international. The rare feat came during the Asian Games 2026 semi-final against India at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.
Ratnayake dismissed India’s Sanju Samson with left-arm spin, bowling him for 7 runs. He later returned with his right arm and had Shivam Dube caught by Sahan Arachchige for 3. He finished with figures of 2 for 32 from his four overs.
Remarkably, Ratnayake is also the only bowler to have taken wickets with both arms in Test cricket. He achieved that on his Test debut against Bangladesh at Galle in 2025, picking up three wickets in the first innings.
The 30-year-old switches arms based on the batter’s weakness. He has said he bowls about 60 percent with his right arm and 40 percent with his left. Despite his record, Sri Lanka lost the semi-final to India by 124 runs after being bowled out for just 45 while chasing 170.
