Tom Cruise’s dark comedy ‘Digger’ releases today

Digger, the Hollywood dark comedy starring Tom Cruise, releases in theatres today, October 2. It is one of five major releases landing on the Gandhi Jayanti long weekend.
The film joins a packed Friday lineup: Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion, the psychological thriller Verity, the Tamil heist Sigma and the Telugu fantasy comedy Don’t Trouble the Trouble with Fahadh Faasil.
Cruise, known for action blockbusters, takes a different turn with the dark comedy. Trade analysts will be watching how the film performs against strong Indian competition in the festive season.
October’s theatrical calendar stays busy. Udta Teer with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan arrives October 9, while Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 lands October 15. Exhibitors are betting the long weekend, with Gandhi Jayanti falling on a Friday, will lift all five releases. It marks a rare comic outing for Cruise, who has spent most of his recent career headlining action franchises. Exhibitors say the star’s pull could still surprise at the box office despite the crowded field.
