Samsung invests $1 billion in KKR-backed Helix Digital

Samsung has invested $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a KKR-backed data centre company, in a major bet on artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The deal, announced on September 29, includes $500 million from Samsung Electronics and $500 million from five other Samsung affiliates. Helix Digital is led by chief executive Adam Selipsky, the former head of Amazon Web Services.
The investment gives Samsung a significant stake in one of the fastest-growing segments of the tech industry. Data centres are in huge demand as AI companies race to build computing capacity.
Helix Digital develops and operates large-scale digital infrastructure. The company has been expanding rapidly with KKR’s backing, targeting hyperscale customers.
The move fits Samsung’s broader strategy of investing across the AI value chain, from chips to cloud infrastructure. Analysts said the deal shows how traditional hardware giants are moving into the infrastructure layer to capture value from the AI boom. Samsung’s shares edged higher after the announcement.
