The White House Accord on Super Intelligence is a voluntary agreement signed by US President Donald Trump with the chief executives of Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia and xAI. Officially titled the “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities”, it was signed after a White House lunch this week.

Under the accord, the companies pledge to adopt internal controls, independent external audits and board-level oversight “to ensure its models do not hack or access technical systems in unintended ways”. The commitment is described as morally binding — it carries no penalties, no mandatory disclosures and no enforcement mechanism.

The pact follows the administration’s push to accelerate American AI leadership while addressing safety concerns. Trump also signed an executive order directing the executive branch to use the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”.

Industry leaders welcomed the cooperative tone, while safety advocates noted the agreement’s voluntary nature and the open question of future legislation. The accord leaves Congress free to legislate binding rules later.

What it means: for now, the biggest AI companies have agreed to police themselves, with external auditors as the main check.
