Uday Shankar Receives Lifetime Achievement at FICCI FRAMES
JioStar Vice Chairman Uday Shankar received the Lifetime Achievement Award at FICCI FRAMES 2026 in Mumbai, honouring a career spanning journalism and media leadership.
Accepting the award, Shankar joked that it felt like “a not-so-subtle suggestion that my time is over”, adding: “I can’t give you any guarantee that I’m stepping away, because there is nothing else I know.”
He began his career as a political correspondent with The Times of India in Patna, was part of the founding team of Aaj Tak, and went on to lead Star, Disney and JioStar.
In his address, Shankar said the media had a crucial role in building the country’s global narrative: “We need to build Brand India.”
The award recognises his contribution to shaping modern Indian media, from news television to the streaming era.
Industry peers at the event praised Shankar’s role in building news television in India and his later bets on sports and digital streaming.
