US President Donald Trump has signed a voluntary artificial intelligence safety pact — the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” — with the chief executives of the world’s leading AI companies.

The “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities” was signed after a White House lunch on Monday. Signatories include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and xAI CEO Elon Musk.

Under the accord, companies pledge to put internal controls, independent external audits and board-level oversight in place “to ensure its models do not hack or access technical systems in unintended ways”. The commitment is described as morally binding but carries no penalties, no required disclosures and no enforcement mechanism, leaving open the possibility of future legislation.

Trump framed the deal as a way to keep America ahead while ensuring AI is developed safely, and used the occasion to back data-centre expansion.

The pact drew mixed reactions: industry praised the cooperative tone, while safety advocates noted its voluntary nature.
