US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the federal government to use the term “Super Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”, arguing the new phrase better captures the promise and potential of the technology.

The order instructs the executive branch to adopt the new terminology, which Trump says reflects how advanced these systems have become. The move drew immediate attention online, where a social-media photo of the signing appeared to show a major typo below the president’s signature.

The executive order follows closely on the heels of Trump’s White House gathering with leading AI executives, where the “White House Accord on Super Intelligence” — a voluntary safety pact — was signed by the CEOs of Google, Anthropic, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia and xAI.

The terminology shift is symbolic, but it signals the administration’s intent to frame artificial intelligence as a central strategic priority, alongside its backing for data-centre expansion and deregulation.

Critics questioned the practical value of renaming the technology, while supporters said it reflected the scale of the transformation AI is driving across the economy.
