An Iranian military spokesman has issued a public letter to the American people declaring that Washington's war against Iran has failed, urging citizens to take to the streets ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Speaking at a Tehran news conference on Tuesday, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesman General Hossein Mohebbi said the war would end only if the United States admitted defeat and left. He accused Washington of using Iran's nuclear programme as a pretext to plunder the country's wealth. The statement came as the United States announced new sanctions under what the Treasury called Operation Economic Outcast, targeting ten individuals and entities in Iran, Hong Kong and Pakistan. The war has entered its seventh month, with Iran's rial plunging past 2.5 million to the US dollar, a record low. Mohebbi's letter marks an unusual direct appeal from Tehran to the American public, reflecting the conflict's growing economic toll on Iran. Washington has not publicly responded to the letter. The sanctions signal that the US intends to tighten economic pressure even as indirect channels remain open for talks.
