The INDIA bloc on Tuesday announced a series of nationwide protests over alleged irregularities in the voter list revision process. The alliance will hold “Save Democracy” marches from October 2 to 8, a march of MPs to the Election Commission office on October 6, and a rally in Delhi on November 1. The announcement followed an Indian Express report that the Election Commission pushed ahead with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls despite objections raised 14 times over 10 months by two election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The EC has rejected the allegations. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the party had concrete proof of voter fraud and would present it before the people. Leaders of the alliance said the revision process could disenfranchise genuine voters ahead of upcoming state elections. The BJP has accused the opposition of attacking constitutional institutions.
