A 23-year-old IT engineer died by suicide at her residence in Pune’s Hadapsar area on the night of September 24, allegedly after dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws, police said.

The woman, Vaishnavi Omkar Gisare, had married Omkar Sanjay Gisare on May 9, 2026, just four months ago. She lived at Vrindavan Society in Wadachi Wadi. According to the complaint filed by her father Pravin Jarande at the Kalepadal police station, the family was harassed over a demand of Rs 5 lakh to buy a car.

Her family said they had spent about Rs 45 lakh on the wedding and given 10 tolas of gold. They alleged repeated mental and physical harassment by her husband, father-in-law Sanjay Mahadev Gisare and mother-in-law Rupali Sanjay Gisare.

Police have arrested all three and booked them under the Dowry Prohibition Act and for alleged abetment of suicide. Police Sub-Inspector Sandeep Raut is investigating the case.

According to the complaint, Vaishnavi had spoken to her mother about the harassment on September 24. When the family could not reach her later that night, her parents travelled to Pune and learned of her death.
