A special NIA court has granted bail to former Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze in the Antilia bomb scare case. Waze has spent several years in custody in the case linked to an explosives-laden car found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai residence in 2021.

Waze was arrested in 2021 after investigators linked him to the abandoned SUV and to the death of its reported owner, businessman Mansukh Hiran. He was dismissed from the police force after the case came to light.

The bail follows years of hearings in the high-profile case, which led to several other arrests. Waze has denied wrongdoing and has maintained that he was framed in the case.

The National Investigation Agency is prosecuting the matter, and the trial will continue even with Waze out on bail, legal experts said. The court has set conditions that Waze must follow while on bail.

The case was one of the biggest controversies to hit the Mumbai police in recent years. It also triggered a political storm in Maharashtra when it first surfaced. Further hearings in the trial are expected in the coming weeks.
