The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation have signed an agreement to share business data.

Under the MoU signed on 29 September in New Delhi, the MSME Ministry will share unit-wise Udyam Registration data with MoSPI through application programming interfaces. The two-way API will feed the National Statistical Business Register, a key source for economic data. The system will update records on a regular cycle.

The pact was signed by Dr Rajneesh, Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner of the MSME Ministry, and Dr Dalip Singh of MoSPI, in the presence of senior officers.

Officials said the data sharing will improve the coverage and reliability of business statistics used for economic surveys and policy-making, including GDP estimation. Both ministries will hold joint reviews of the project.

The register will also help track new business creation across districts. Economists say better data could improve credit flow to small firms.
