Sam Harper scored a superb unbeaten century to rescue Australia A on the opening day of the second unofficial Test against India A in Puducherry.

Australia A were in deep trouble at 104 for 5 before Harper took charge. His 101 not out carried the visitors to 282 for 7 by stumps.

Harper mixed solid defence with attacking shots, finding partners down the order to frustrate the Indian bowlers. It was a knock of great maturity in tough conditions.

India A will look to wrap up the tail quickly on day two and build a big first-innings lead. The four-day series is a key test for the next line of players on both sides. The bowlers toiled hard in humid conditions without much reward in the final session.
