The Congress Working Committee on September 29 demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The party’s top body, meeting at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi, also sought the restoration of 13.3 crore names it claims were removed from voter lists. Congress leaders called the alleged manipulation “vote chori”.

The resolution cited reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had objected at least 14 times over ten months to SIR-related decisions, including changes to Form 6. The Election Commission has defended the exercise and denied internal disagreement.

The party also demanded the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attended the meeting.

Party leaders said the campaign against the Election Commission will now intensify across states. The INDIA bloc is planning joint protests and may move parliamentary motions seeking the CEC’s removal.
