The European Union’s flagship transport event, Connecting Europe Days 2026, opened in Brussels on September 28. The four-day event runs until October 1.

The agenda covers the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), infrastructure resilience, transport finance, high-speed rail and military mobility.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told the opening session that Europe needs a “true Transport Union”. She said better links are key to the continent’s competitiveness and security.

The event brings together ministers, industry leaders and experts. Military mobility — moving troops and equipment quickly across Europe — has gained importance amid current security concerns. Sessions also cover funding for the next generation of cross-border rail and road links.

The TEN-T network is the EU’s plan to link major cities with modern rail, road and waterway connections. This year’s edition also looks at how transport can keep working during crises, from natural disasters to security threats. The European Commission co-funds many of these projects through its Connecting Europe Facility.
