Bangladesh’s dengue outbreak is worsening. Six more people died and 1,942 were admitted to hospitals in the 24 hours to September 29, 2026, health officials said.

The death toll for the year has reached 239, with 77,672 hospital admissions. September alone has seen 142 deaths — the highest monthly toll of 2026.

Dhaka South City Corporation has reported the most cases at 18,080. More than 72,000 patients have recovered so far this year.

The Red Cross has launched an emergency operation to support the response. Officials have urged residents to clear standing water around homes and to seek early treatment for fever.

Dengue spreads through the bite of the Aedes mosquito, which breeds in clean standing water. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache and joint pain. Most patients recover, but a small number develop severe dengue, which can be fatal without hospital care. Health experts say early testing and hospital treatment greatly improve survival.
