Iran is awaiting an official United States response to its latest proposals, delivered through Qatari mediators, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Monday.

Araghchi said Tehran expected the reply on Tuesday and that “there is no change in Iran’s positions”. The proposals include a seven-point plan covering the Strait of Hormuz and wider regional issues, according to Iranian media.

The minister said Iran was prepared to reopen negotiations within a week if conditions were right, signalling cautious optimism after months of stalled diplomacy.

The outreach follows earlier rounds of indirect talks, including sessions in Muscat. Qatar has played a central mediating role between the two sides. Any progress could ease tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s oil passes. Washington has not publicly responded to the latest Iranian remarks.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for global oil shipments, so any diplomatic progress could calm energy markets. Previous rounds of talks have repeatedly stalled over the scope of a deal.
