Sensex, Nifty edge higher in early trade

Indian markets opened on a flat note on Wednesday, with the Sensex and Nifty edging higher in early trade amid mixed global signals.

At about 9:30am IST, the Sensex was up 79.87 points at 84,224.48, while the Nifty 50 gained 28.8 points to 25,749.15. Traders tracked overnight global cues as Asian markets moved in different directions.

The cautious start came a day after the Nifty closed September with its worst monthly fall in over six years, down 3.4 per cent for the month. Investors remained watchful of foreign fund flows and currency moves.

Market breadth stayed mixed as participants weighed hopes of an India-US trade deal against persistent foreign selling. Analysts said direction through the session would depend on global markets and institutional activity.

On Tuesday, the Nifty had closed almost flat at 25,720.35, ending September down 3.4 per cent. The Sensex finished at 84,060.74. Investors will track foreign fund activity and global cues through the day.
