The Centre and states have finalised preparations for the upcoming Rabi season at the National Conference on Agriculture for Rabi Campaign 2026, held in New Delhi on September 28 and 29. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the two-day meeting, which brought together state agriculture ministers, senior central officials, ICAR and other stakeholders.

The agenda covered seed and fertiliser availability, the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, edible oils, PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, crop insurance and the Digital Agriculture Mission. Chouhan called for planning based on water availability and climate risks, weekly monitoring of sowing progress, and wider coverage of Kisan Credit Cards.

Fertiliser demand for Rabi 2026-27 is estimated at nearly 350 lakh tonnes. A 'Khet Bachao Abhiyan' to promote soil health and balanced fertiliser use will run from October 22 to November 30, with large-scale demonstrations of green ammonia planned across 37 districts in six states during the season.
