Strong Winds Disrupt Mumbai Airport; 8 Flights Diverted
Strong winds disrupted flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Tuesday evening, forcing multiple diversions.
Eight Mumbai-bound flights carrying 1,255 passengers were diverted to Surat, according to LatestLY. All aircraft landed safely. Surat airport served as the alternate facility while weather affected Mumbai.
The first diverted flight was IndiGo 6E-2017 from Tiruchirappalli, which landed in Surat around 6:50 pm with 182 passengers. It was followed by IndiGo 6E-864 from Delhi with 122 passengers and Air India AI-2941 from Delhi at about 7:02 pm with 186 passengers.
Other diverted flights included IndiGo 6E-5104 from Chennai, Air India AI-2746 from Goa, IndiGo 6E-5255 from Bengaluru, Air India AI-640 from Chennai, and IndiGo 6E-5312 from Bhopal.
The Daily Jagran reported a wider impact: 13 aircraft diverted to Surat, Ahmedabad, and Nashik, with 213 flights delayed overall.
The diverted aircraft are expected to continue to Mumbai once weather conditions improve. Airlines advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.
