Bodhana Sivanandan has become the youngest player ever to fulfil the requirements for the Woman Grandmaster title. The 11-year-old English prodigy completed the final norm at a tournament this week.

She scored 8 points from 11 games playing on board one for England, a remarkable result against strong opposition. The performance also earned her a second International Master norm, putting her on the path to an even higher title.

Woman Grandmaster is one of chess’s official titles, awarded by the world chess federation. Meeting the criteria at 11 breaks the previous age record by a clear margin.

Bodhana has been breaking records since she first appeared on the international stage. Her calm, attacking style has drawn comparisons with the game’s greats, and she has already represented England’s senior team.

She is now expected to receive the title formally at the next federation congress. Coaches say the focus now shifts to the full Grandmaster title.
