Sarvesh Kushare won the silver medal in the men’s high jump at the Asian Games on Monday, clearing 2.25m in a tense final.

Gold went to Chao Hsuan-Fu of Chinese Taipei, who also cleared 2.25m but did so on his first attempt. Kushare needed two attempts at the height, which decided the title on countback.

Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo took bronze with 2.22m. Both Kushare and Chao then tried 2.28m but neither could clear it.

Kushare jumped cleanly through the early heights, clearing 2.10m, 2.14m, 2.18m and 2.22m on his first attempts. He stayed near the top of the leaderboard for most of the evening.

The silver added to India’s athletics medals at the Games. It was a composed performance from Kushare against a strong field. His personal best remains higher, and his team believes a 2.28m clearance is within reach this season. The silver should boost his ranking ahead of next year’s major meets.
