Lovely Professional University Chancellor Rashmi Mittal has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against her arrest. The case is linked to violence during a protest at the university’s Phagwara campus.

An FIR was registered after clashes broke out during the protest, and a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the matter. Mittal has challenged the police action in her appeal.

The protest had turned violent, leading to injuries and damage on the campus. Police stepped in to control the situation and later named several people in the case.

Mittal’s legal team has argued that the arrest was not justified. The court will now hear the matter and decide on the plea.

The case has drawn attention because it involves the head of one of India’s largest private universities. All allegations are yet to be tested in court. The High Court is expected to take up the matter for hearing soon. The university has not issued a fresh public statement on the case.
