Central Team Begins 4-Day Assessment of Himachal Damage
A seven-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team has begun a four-day visit to Himachal Pradesh to assess monsoon damage. The team, led by M. Ramachandrudu, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry, arrived on Monday.
The visit will run from September 28 to October 1. The team will tour areas hit by cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides during the monsoon.
Himachal has suffered losses of more than Rs 3,220 crore in the 91-day monsoon period from June 30 to September 28. As many as 373 people died, including 152 in disasters and 221 in road accidents.
Another 623 people were injured and 162 are missing. Over 1,400 houses were damaged, and 61 roads were still blocked as of September 28.
The state government has submitted a memorandum seeking about Rs 3,200 crore in central assistance. The team’s report will guide the release of relief funds. The team will submit its report to the Home Ministry, which will decide on the central assistance package.
