Invivyd has announced positive topline results from its LIBERTY Phase 3 study, saying its VYD2311 monoclonal antibody showed safety and tolerability superior to an mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine.

The company said the trial met its goals and that it is moving toward regulatory submissions. LIBERTY was designed primarily to assess safety, comparing the antibody against an approved mRNA vaccine in a large population.

Importantly, the study was not designed to prove on its own that VYD2311 prevents Covid infection. Safety-focused trials answer a different question from efficacy trials, a distinction the company itself has noted.

The results were announced via press release and have not been peer-reviewed. Independent scientists will want to see the full data before drawing conclusions.

If regulators agree, the antibody could offer an alternative for people who cannot take or do not respond well to vaccines. The company said further updates will follow. The company said additional data disclosures and regulatory updates are planned.
