The death toll from a Myanmar military airstrike in Rakhine State has risen to 50, according to reports published on Tuesday. Aid workers were among those killed in the attack, one of the deadliest aerial strikes reported in the region this year.

The strike hit western Myanmar, where the junta’s forces have been battling the Arakan Army as part of the country’s wider civil conflict. Local sources told reporters that civilians were caught in the blast zone.

Reuters reported the revised toll after earlier estimates put the number lower. Human rights groups have repeatedly accused the military of striking civilian areas from the air, a charge the junta denies.

The attack deepens international concern over a conflict that has displaced hundreds of thousands and drawn far less global attention than other crises. UN officials have warned of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Rakhine, where aid access is heavily restricted.

Neither the junta nor rebel groups had issued a detailed statement on this strike. Independent verification remains difficult, as journalists and aid agencies face severe limits on movement in the area.
