The Philippines joined dozens of countries in a walkout during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s UN speech, the foreign affairs department confirmed.

DFA spokesperson Analyn Ratonel said the move showed solidarity for peace in the Middle East. She cited concern over Gaza and Israeli settlement plans.

Netanyahu called the delegates who walked out moral cowards. His speech drew walkouts for the third straight year at the General Assembly.

The Philippines has reiterated support for a two-state solution. It has also raised alarm over settler violence in the West Bank.

The walkout highlights growing global criticism of Israel’s Gaza campaign. Diplomats say the divide at the UN reflects deep frustration over the war. Foreign Secretary Theresa Lazaro has also urged world leaders to put a human face on policy. The Philippines says it backs an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The walkout was one of the largest diplomatic protests at this year’s UN session.
