Drone fragments were found on farmland in southern Romania on Tuesday morning, the defence ministry said. The debris was discovered on the Great Braila Island in Braila county.

Officials said the object was possibly a drone that fell overnight. Experts are examining the fragments to identify their origin.

The find follows a series of airspace alerts near Romania’s border with Ukraine. Two F-16 jets were scrambled earlier after an aerial target entered Romanian airspace.

Romania has reported dozens of drone debris incidents this year. Most are linked to Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports across the Danube.

NATO has said it is monitoring the situation closely. Romania is a NATO member, and repeated airspace breaches have raised concern in the alliance. Defence officials said teams will secure the site and complete their analysis soon. Residents near the border were told there was no immediate danger. NATO officials said they are in close contact with Romanian authorities on the matter.
