Alex Eala reached the Asian Games tennis quarter-finals with a commanding win on Monday. The Filipina star beat Thailand’s Patcharin Cheapchandej 6-1, 6-0 in Nagoya.

Rain delays forced the match indoors to Court C. Eala, the top seed, needed just 55 minutes to finish the job.

The world No. 18 dominated from the start. She won the first four games and never let her opponent back in.

Eala will next face Chinese Taipei’s Joanna Garland. A win would put her one step from the gold-medal match.

The 21-year-old is chasing the Philippines’ first Asian Games tennis gold in over 60 years. She also teams up with Shaira Rivera in the women’s doubles. Fans back home are hoping she can end the long wait for a tennis gold medal. She is also scheduled to play in the women’s doubles event later this week. Tennis officials said the indoor courts held up well despite the heavy rain outside.
