Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas assured herself of a medal at the Asian Games on Monday, storming into the women’s 60kg semifinal with a unanimous 5-0 win over Tajikistan’s Mijgona Samadova.

Fighting at the Nishio Gymnasium, Priya trailed 2-3 after the opening round but raised her game to take the second round before sweeping the third 5-0 to seal the quarterfinal bout.

The win assured India of its fifth boxing medal at the Games, as all semifinalists are guaranteed at least a bronze.

Priya will next face China’s Yang Chengyu, the 2023 world champion and 2025 World Championships bronze medallist, in what promises to be her toughest test of the tournament.

The semifinal is scheduled for Wednesday, and a win would put her one victory away from the gold-medal bout.
