India’s Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men’s long jump at the Asian Games on Sunday. His best effort of 8.07 metres came in a tense final.

China’s Shi Yuhao took gold with a jump of 8.17 metres. Uzbekistan’s Anvar Anvarov claimed bronze with 8.06 metres, just one centimetre behind Sreeshankar.

The Indian started strongly and stayed in medal contention through all six rounds. His final jump sealed second place and sparked celebrations in the Indian camp.

The silver adds to India’s growing athletics medal count at the Games. Sreeshankar has been among Asia’s most consistent long jumpers in recent seasons.

The 27-year-old will now target the World Championships qualifying mark. His coaches said the Asian Games medal is a stepping stone to bigger goals next season.

The result continues a strong season for Indian athletics at the Games. Sreeshankar has medalled at every major Asian championship since 2022.
