Vietnamese police have arrested three people on terrorism charges, including citizens of Norway and Australia. The arrests were announced on Monday.

Two of the detained are Norwegian citizens of Vietnamese origin, and the third is an Australian citizen. Vietnam alleges they planned a bomb attack linked to an exiled opposition group.

The exiled group Viet Tan rejected the claim. It said one of the detained men was abducted in Cambodia and taken to Vietnam, and denied any link to violence.

Norway’s foreign ministry confirmed that a Norwegian citizen has been detained and said its embassy is following the case. Australia has not yet commented publicly.

Vietnam treats Viet Tan as a terrorist organisation, while the group describes itself as a pro-democracy movement. Human rights groups have raised concerns about due process in the case.

The case is expected to draw attention from human rights groups and foreign governments. Diplomatic missions usually seek consular access for detained citizens, and such cases can strain bilateral ties.
