White House lists coal, fentanyl and AI deals from Xi’s visit
The White House has released a readout of Xi Jinping’s state visit to Washington, listing deals on coal, fentanyl and artificial intelligence. The visit took place from September 24 to 26.
China has agreed to import at least 10 million metric tonnes of US coal in 2027 and again in 2028. The White House said this was a clear commitment. China’s own statement did not mention the coal figure.
Beijing also agreed to act against synthetic opioids. It will tighten export controls on two fentanyl precursors. The move follows the arrest of 21 suspects in a fentanyl case in August.
The two sides agreed to start a bilateral dialogue on AI. The first session is set for November. They will also open a channel to handle AI-related incidents.
One issue remains open. Washington said work continues to restore rare earth shipments to appropriate levels. China did not address rare earths in its statement.
