Russian drone and missile strikes on Kyiv killed nine people and injured more than 80, according to Reuters. Fresh explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital early on Tuesday, a Reuters witness said.

The attacks hit apartment blocks, offices and a cultural landmark across the city. Emergency crews worked through the night to reach people trapped in damaged buildings.

The toll marks an escalation after Monday’s strikes. The New York Post, citing AP reporting, said seven people were killed when drones hammered homes and offices on Monday. Separately, officials told TBS that two people died at a market outside Kyiv and three others were killed in different regions.

Russia has stepped up long-range strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks. Ukraine’s air defences said they intercepted many of the incoming drones.

The deaths add pressure on efforts to end the war. Mediators are still trying to bring both sides to the table even as the fighting intensifies.
