Qatari mediators are expected to hold separate talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in New York and with the US side on Monday or Tuesday in a fresh push to end the war.

The talks will focus on an amended version of a seven-day proposal Iran presented on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters.

Iran’s plan envisages an end to all hostilities in Iran and Lebanon, unfreezing billions of dollars in Iranian assets, ending sanctions on Iranian oil, lifting the US blockade on Iranian ports and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, followed by resumed nuclear talks.

President Trump said Saturday he had rejected Iran’s proposal, saying Tehran wanted a swift deal because of economic pressure. But he told Axios on Sunday that he expected US negotiators to engage in more talks this week.

Iran’s semi-official ISNA confirmed Araqchi would meet the mediators, while Tehran’s foreign ministry said his stay was not extended and he would return home on schedule. Brent crude settled up 0.9% at $105.28 a barrel on Monday on supply-disruption worries.
