George Russell won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku, leading all 51 laps from pole to claim his third win of the season and the first Grand Slam of his career.

Russell was joined on the podium by Max Verstappen, who charged from eighth to finish just 0.196 seconds behind, and Isack Hadjar in third — Red Bull’s first double podium since the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, on Verstappen’s return from a three-race wrist injury. Russell also took the fastest lap.

Chaos struck behind the leaders on lap 36 when Franco Colapinto locked up at the restart and took out team-mate Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris. All three retired, with Norris calling for FIA bans. Oscar Piastri locked up while fighting Hadjar for third and dropped to 15th, eventually finishing 14th.

Kimi Antonelli recovered from 16th on the grid to finish fifth. Russell closed the title gap to Antonelli from 81 to 66 points with eight rounds remaining, while Mercedes moved 160 points clear of Ferrari in the constructors’ championship. Charles Leclerc finished fourth and Lewis Hamilton sixth for Ferrari.
