Shawn Levy leaves Netflix for Disney in major TV deal
Shawn Levy is leaving Netflix for Disney, signing a multi-year overall deal with 20th Television.
The agreement, reported on September 28, will see Levy and his 21 Laps Entertainment develop series across Disney’s platforms. The deal begins in October 2027, after nearly a decade at Netflix.
Levy was a key creative force behind ‘Stranger Things,’ directing and producing the hit series. He will continue collaborating with the Duffer brothers on its universe at Netflix, including the animated spinoff.
The move deepens his Disney ties. Levy directed ‘Free Guy’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and is finishing ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ with Ryan Gosling.
‘It honestly just feels like home,’ Levy said, noting he began his career directing Disney Channel shows. For Disney, landing one of TV’s most prolific producers is a major coup.
