A deep depression has formed near the Myanmar coast, sparking a fresh weather watch across the Bay of Bengal region on September 28.

The system developed as Cyclone Arnab weakened, and forecasters are tracking whether it will bring heavy rain to coastal Myanmar and adjoining areas. Fishermen have been advised to stay alert for rough seas.

Importantly, the India Meteorological Department has not forecast the system intensifying into a cyclone. Reports suggesting a cyclone threat go beyond the official outlook, and residents should rely on IMD bulletins rather than speculation.

The Bay of Bengal routinely spawns such systems in late September as the monsoon withdraws. Authorities in the region are monitoring rainfall and river levels as the depression moves.

Coastal districts in Myanmar and India’s northeast are on alert for heavy downpours and gusty winds. The system is expected to weaken as it moves inland, though localized flooding remains possible in low-lying areas.
