Boeing has identified a flight-management software fault in some 737 MAX jets. The glitch can make automated vertical-navigation guidance unavailable after an aborted landing.

According to reports, the loss of the guidance would increase pilot workload during a critical phase of flight. The issue affects the aircraft’s ability to follow a programmed vertical path.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has convened a Corrective Action Review Board to examine the matter. No airworthiness directive had been issued as of the latest reports.

Boeing said it was working with regulators on a fix. The company also flagged that the issue could delay certification of new 737 MAX variants, according to reports.

The 737 MAX has faced intense scrutiny in recent years. Airlines operating the jet will await guidance on software updates, and the FAA review will decide if a formal directive is needed. Boeing says safety remains its top priority as it works through the review.
