The European Union on Monday sanctioned 10 individuals and 17 entities over the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia. The decision was announced by the EU Council on 28 September.

According to the Council, the listings target those responsible for the forced transfer and deportation of Ukrainian children. The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans.

The move is part of the EU’s broader sanctions regime against Russia over the war in Ukraine. EU officials said the deportation of children was a grave violation of international law.

Russia has denied wrongdoing in the past. The new listings take effect immediately across all EU member states, according to the announcement.

The EU has imposed multiple rounds of sanctions since the war began. Member states must enforce the measures, which were published in the EU’s official journal on Monday. The bloc says it will maintain pressure until international law is respected.
