Florida routed No. 4 Ole Miss 52-28 on Saturday, September 26, at the Swamp in Gainesville. The Gators moved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the SEC, their first 4-0 start since 2019, under first-year head coach Jon Sumrall.

The 52 points tied a program record for most points against an AP top-five team, set in the 1997 Sugar Bowl win over Florida State for the national championship. It was Florida’s first win over a top-five opponent since beating Georgia in 2020, snapping a 12-game losing streak. The two-headed rushing attack of Jadan Baugh and Duke Clark ran for over 200 yards against Ole Miss.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss threw for 298 yards and one touchdown and ran for two scores. Coach Pete Golding questioned his team’s courage after the loss. Ole Miss fell to 3-1 and 1-1 in the SEC, has a bye week, then plays at Vanderbilt on October 10.

Texas stayed No. 1 in both the AP Top 25 and the US LBM Coaches Poll after surviving 20-17 at No. 13 Tennessee, while Georgia rose after beating Oklahoma 41-13. USA Today’s Paul Myerberg placed Georgia No. 1 in his re-rank of all 138 FBS teams, with Florida at No. 6 — Georgia is No. 1 only in that analyst re-rank, not in the AP or coaches polls.
