Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit the United States from September 29 to October 5, 2026, to advance bilateral trade agreement talks, the government announced on September 28. He will meet US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer at Greer’s invitation.

The agenda is a balanced, mutually beneficial India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement and an interim deal in line with the February 7, 2026 joint statement. Goyal will also attend the G20 trade ministers’ meeting in Milwaukee on September 30 and October 1.

In Milwaukee and Chicago, Goyal will hold roundtables with US CEOs and startup founders, meet Indian farmers, fishermen, women entrepreneurs and MSME stakeholders, pay floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti and to Swami Vivekananda in Chicago, and interact with the Indian diaspora.

On September 24, Goyal said the pact was “done and dusted” and that execution awaited India securing a competitive tariff advantage against rivals in the US market. India has said new US tariff measures over Russian-oil purchases could affect ties. The interim framework includes India cutting tariffs on US industrial and agricultural goods, with the US imposing an 18% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods.
