At least 21 people have been killed and five are missing after four days of torrential rain triggered floods and landslides across Nepal, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority said on September 27, 2026. Five others were injured.

Landslides caused the heaviest toll: 14 deaths and five people missing. Floods killed four people, while three died amid continuous heavy rainfall. The destruction came from a low-pressure system from the Bay of Bengal that brought intense rain from September 24 to 27.

The hardest-hit areas were mountain districts including Jajarkot, Myagdi and Sankhuwasabha, with casualties also reported in Baglung, Palpa, Dolpa, Dhanusha, Lamjung, Rukum West, Kavre, Dhading, Makwanpur and Surkhet. Nepal’s Bipad portal recorded 285 distinct landslides between September 24 and 28.

About 247 families were directly affected. Some 260 homes were fully destroyed and 80 partially damaged, while nearly 3,000 residents were moved out of high-risk zones. Nepal Police rescued 407 stranded people. Flash-flood warnings were active in 49 of Nepal’s 77 districts.

The Armed Police Force and local authorities led rescue operations, with helicopter evacuations in the worst-hit districts. Around 9,000 foreign tourists and trekkers were advised to shelter in place and halt travel.
