A'ja Wilson scored 38 points with 16 rebounds, four blocks and two steals as the Las Vegas Aces beat the Indiana Fever 102-85 in Game 1 of the WNBA playoffs first round on Sunday at Michelob Ultra Arena, according to USA Today.

Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to record 30-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in multiple playoff games. Her 38 points tied her postseason career-high, and she shot 15-of-19 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. Earlier Sunday she was named the Associated Press WNBA Player of the Year for an unprecedented third year in a row.

Wilson credited defense: 'Defense is what's going to win us championships and possession,' she said. Coach Becky Hammon added: 'She understands the stakes fully. She was a clinic tonight.'

Jackie Young added 21 points and 10 assists, and Chelsea Gray had 14 points and 8 assists. Gray's 397 career playoff assists moved her past Courtney Vandersloot's 390 for second in playoff history. The Aces scored 28 points off Indiana's 17 turnovers.

The Aces took a 1-0 series lead. Game 2 is Tuesday in Indiana — a Fever loss ends their season and sends the defending champions to the semifinals.
