European Union countries imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and 17 entities on Monday, September 28, for involvement in the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia.

The list includes Moscow's City Tourism Committee, children's and sports camps in Russia, and the Songdowon International Children's Camp in North Korea. The European Council said Ukrainian children are brought to the North Korean camp to promote pro-Russian narratives.

Ukraine has verified the deportation of more than 20,500 children. Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab estimates the figure is closer to 35,000, while Moscow has suggested up to 700,000.

The listings were presented by the EU diplomatic service earlier in September and adopted ahead of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children conference in Toronto on September 28-29. Maksym Maksymov of Bring Kids Back UA said: 'We welcome this positive action from the European Union towards ensuring accountability for these crimes.'

The listings add to the international pressure for the children's return.
