Power Grid Corporation of India has been declared the successful bidder for an inter-state transmission project to evacuate renewable power from Gujarat's Lakadia, Jam Khambhaliya and Jamnagar zones, the company said in a regulatory filing. The Letter of Intent was received on September 25.

The project was awarded under tariff-based competitive bidding on a build, own, operate and transfer basis. POWERGRID quoted annual transmission charges of Rs 430.67 crore for the scheme, which covers evacuation from Lakadia's 7.5 GW phase-II, Jam Khambhaliya's 5.5 GW phase-II and Jamnagar's 1 GW phase-I.

The scope includes a new 765/400/220 kV Alephata substation in Maharashtra, along with 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines traversing the state. The project is part of a broader 14 GW plan to connect Gujarat's renewable-rich zones to the national grid.

With this win, POWERGRID has secured nine transmission projects through competitive bidding in 2026-27 so far, with cumulative annual transmission charges of Rs 7,664.08 crore. The full 14-GW evacuation scheme is now completely awarded, with POWERGRID winning three of its five components.
